Shuuryou walked throughout the market as men, women and children buzzed past him occupied by their respective errands. He walked past a man attempting to sell a worthless clock to a woman preoccupied with her two twins. Then he passed by a man walking with his son atop his shoulders. Ryou's heart ached to know the feeling of love that those children take for granted.
They may be all smiles and sunshine in public but every family is dysfunctional in the privacy of their home. It isn't all it is cracked up to be.
Ryou grew tired of the lights and buzz of the market, he desired interaction amongst his peers.
This is just like any other day, I walk through the market hoping that I will see someone I know. But day in and day out I go from one end to the other and I am no more satified walking out as I was walking in.

Hanging from a railing on the second story of one of the plaza buildings, Ikari dangled his scarf temptingly in front of a random village dog. He laughed and pulled it up quicky to avoid those gnashing teeth. He repeated the process until the dog got bored and left. He sighed and sat up on the top of the railing, feet now dangling over the street. He had finished his portion of the work early enough to help his compatriots finish fast, and in response they had gone to the movies with out him. He shrugged and lept down into the street, no matter he did not have any money anyway.
The sky was bluer than ever and that was enough to make him happy. He ran down the road, thinking about how to try a new technique and he bumped into a man who did not seem to notice. Ikari was suprised and followed the man to try and appologize. "SIR!" he yelled, a little loudly, and the man finally seemed to affect and interest in the underling that was trailing him.

As Shuuryou walked he began to hear a voice behind him calling. He turned around to see Ikari running after him waving his hand.
"Well hello, how are you doing this fine afternoon?" Ryou asked with a pleasant smile.
He must have something important for me. I wonder what he has been up to as of late. I haven't seen him in a long time.
"Hey Ikari, did you ever take the Chuunin Exam?"

"Huh? Oh, ah, not yet. I don't think that I'll be ready to do that for a while; I need to find a team that would be able to make it through with me anyway." Ikari said, suprised by the sudden question. "I, uh, wanted to appologize for running into you just now. Wait, how do you know my name?" He ran apprasing eyes over the taller man. "I don't believe I've seen you before, were you in the academy when I was younger?"
A thought tickled the back of his head, but he could not place the image that formed in his head. It was a little snippet that he had heard his Father talking about before he left. Something about a child and a technique...

Shuuryou smiled to the teen standing in front of him. He looked Ikari over from head to toe.
It really had been a long time since then. I wouldn't have recognized him if it weren't for that scarf.
"Don't worry about bumping into me, in fact I didn't even notice I was so absorbed in my own thought. Actually I did in fact attend the academy around the same time as you but you probably don't recognize me because I well..."
Ryou looked himself up and down.
"As you can see I look a bit older than I actually am."

"Oh? How does that work?" Ikari's face began to switch to the mask that covered his thoughts when he thought he smelled a fib. How could some one be that much younger than they appeared. He could have been shaving for two or three years and by the look of it, he did.
Ikari rocked back and forth awaiting an answer; he began humming 'Christmas in the Silent Forest'. Then he stopped suddenly, his pupils shrinking. "Uh, hold that thought, sir. I've got to go to the market and get food for our dinner." He paused and turned back, " You seem to know me, so how's about you come with me and stop for dinner at my house. Mom loves to feed people." He tugged his scarf tighter, thinking, And I want to know how much you know about me....

Shurryou stood there a moment a bit stunned by Ikari. Ryou recovered and decided to answer Ikari before he was labeled rude.
"Yes, that would be lovely. Seeing as how otherwise I would have to eat out of a garbage can or cook myself something... Preferably the garbage can."
Ryou began walking with Ikari as he ran his errands.
"To answer your earlier question, the reason I look so much older than you is because of a... umm how should I put this... its because of an ability that I possess. It is what most people would call a trump card, I think of it as more of a double edged sword. If I use it shortens my life and I end up looking older than I really am. I used it once and so this is why I look this way. I did go to the academy but I obviously aged a bit quicker because of the technique."

Ikari smiled and nodded not really thinking on the subject. He was too worried about which of the fish was the best to take home. Then it was over to the vegetable store and the fruit market. He began to list it in his head.
"Ah, Double edged sword; yeah I think I know what you mean." He unconciously fingered his scarf and turned to the man. "I guess that means that it ages you dramatically, then?" He left the question hanging in the air for the man to absorb.
Hah, I think he's suprised that I can put things together so quickly. If he really did, as he said, go to the academy with me, he'll find me much changed from that lazy stupid boku.
Under his breath, Ikari muttered, "Ijutsu no Yokaze" and a breeze blew past the both of them.

Shuuryou walked along thinking to himself. He almost completely missed Ikari's question. He quickly attempted to muster a response.
"Ye-yes, that is what is does is a very simple sense. I would explain the finer details but I am sure you aren't interested."
Ryou kept walking along thinking about the place he used to call "home". He grew a bit angry inside thinking about how they treated him because of his curse. He looked down that his taped hands. He knew what lay underneath, Why was I labelled and branded this way.

"Not interested? Why would I have asked if I wasn't interested? I like to learn all I can." Ikari turned to face the "older" man, and blanched at the fury present in his eyes. He saw the taped hands and raised an eyebrow. Then he burst into laughter. Such a funny thing, being worried about something you can't change. One must only try never to do the act of which they worry about ever again.
"Oh, here we are. Welcome to my house!" A quick peek inside told him that his mother was not on the first floor at the time. "Come on in, sir and warm your hands. There's a fire laid and some snacks out."
Mother, where are you? He was slightly worried, but would give her some time to show up. She had never disappeared for long anyway.

Shuuryou looked up from his hands to see Ikari standing in the doorway of his home. Ryou followed Ikari into his house. He looked around a bit then spoke up.
"You have a nice house, its very... cozy."
Ryou walked over to a chair and sat down.
Perhaps I should make some conversation.
"Hey Ikari, so what have you done with your life since you graduated from the academy?"

"Me, well I've been jumping around from squad to squad and such. Because none of them ever try to take the Chunnin exam neither have I." He rocked back and forth, hands behind his head. "Um, I've done 50 or so of the lowest ranked missions. but that's about it."
Ikari got up and paced in front of the fireplace. "I've been trying to follow my father's footsteps and become a healer."
He walked to the stairs and peered up into the darkness. Darkness, he backed away involuntarily, His father had left in darkness. He turned back to the man seated by the fire. "Forgive me for my rudeness, but I don't believe I've ever heard your name?" He leaned against the wall next to the kitchen.

Shuuryou was taken aback by what Ikari was saying.
"I am truly sorry for not properly introducing myself, I am Itonami Shuuryou, but you can call me Ryou. They are obviously wasting your talents.... You want to be a healer? So you are going through medical training? Hmm, that is very interesting, with that talent you could easily become a Chuunin."
Ryou walked over the fire and warmed his hands up a bit more.
"But there must be a team of Genin willing to take the Chuunin exam this year... Well regardless I think it is a shame you aren't a Chuunin as it is."
Ryou thought back to how easy his Chuunin exam had been.
Most of my opponents gave up before the fight even started. They were all so scared of my "Death Touch". Except for the one lad, he was quite the brave one. Unfortunately he wasn't enough of a challenge.

"Well I don't really mind waiting. Besides I can help people along the way, even if they don't stay around to help me...." Ikari shrugged and smiled. "But, you know when you get paired with would-be female nins, they tend to want to go to the malls and shop more often than actually work. As for the healing, I've learned alot from the scrolls that my father left behind. And my cell members profit from them often."
He walked into the kitchen and washed his hands. As he was drying them he looked over at the load of food they had to wash. "Ryou, how about you come over here and help me prepare some of the food; Mother would be suprised if we had food ready when she got back."
I'll go the healers academy someday, he thought, but I have to find him ,too. Ikari was unaware of the tears welling up in his eyes.
