Zodiac Mage
It was mid-morning in the late days of August. The grass was covered with soft dew and the birds awoke cheerfully, singing their joys into the skies. The moon fell and the sun rose to take its rightful place as ruler of the crystal blue heavens, and the graceful animals of the lands poured from the chambers, running freely once again in the new found day.
A boy sat quietly in the midst of the action, his eyes closed and legs crossed. He was upon a large stone cold boulder that rested in the very center of a vast green field of long leafed grass. For miles all that could be seen were the wavy fingers of the lush plants. Smooth and gentle breezes casted through the area blew the long haired grass in an elegant rhythm toward the boy who remained so silent, so still.
Above him was a clear blue sky with pure white clouds floating below the heavens like pillows, calling the dead to sleep upon them. The sun shone high over the beautiful green mountains that stood like forest guardians far in the distance, and cast a wondrous light across the wide open plain. Silence and stillness were the only feelings about, and the boy did nothing to disrupt this touch of peaceful air.
It started out as a simple tap, a tap that did no more then rouse the small interest of the boy, but soon that tap became a knocking, and the knocking a pounding. The boy's meditations were broken and his eyelids flickered open, revealing a pair of green crystal eyes, which appeared to be emeralds.
Pound! Pound! Pound! The stone of which the boy sat began to shake wildly each time the pounding sound echoed in his ears. Pound! Pound! Pound! The boy leaped quickly, and was off the rock in a matter of seconds, and a good thing too. The giant boulder was thrown twenty feet or higher into the air, and came crashing down into the soft grass plain like a comet falling from the midst of space.
The boy paid no attention to the falling rock, and instead turned his gaze back to where the stone has once been. Now there sat an empty dark black hole. The boy took one cautious step toward the deep drop, and tried hard to peer into it without venturing too close. He had no need to proceed any further.
From the hole, a large black speckled brown almost crab like claw extended from the darkness. The claw placed itself down on the grass. It was almost two times the size of one of the boy's arms. Another arm, equal sized, appeared after the first, and also placed itself on the soft earth. A tail, matching the sight of the claws in color and resembling them in shape, appeared on the other side of the hole.
Whatever controlled these limbs pressed down with them, and pushed itself up. The boy found himself staring at a scorpion almost three times his size. It was brown with black speckles everywhere but its legs which were the color of pure earth made dirt.
A loud roaring like voice echoed through the lands, that the boy thought too loud to understand. He had been expecting the normal human tongue, but instead the creature had been speaking in the Zodiac Language. "Ish la me haze`" It began, "Capricorn Mage." It finished its sentence in the normal mortal tongue.
The young boy looked sternly at the new arrival. His crystal green eyes turning form that glowing emerald green color to a hard blood dark forest color. “Can I help you Sporion?” He asked, his wise voice sounding almost ancient in the calm air.
The giant scorpion took a step forward so it was no longer hovering over the hole from which it has come, and smirked the best it could with its odd facial features. “I bring word from the Scorpio Mage.” He replied, his raspy voice disrupting the boy’s calm features.
What can he possibly want? I told him to lay off… I’m not joining. “Did you come here to tell me that or are you actually going to relay the message?” The boy asked hotly, staring the scorpion down with his blood shot eyes.
A small chuckled escaped the giant animal’s mouth that sounds like a wheeze. “He wishes for you to meet with him on the cusp of the Sagittarius and the Capricorn, for a small meeting about your future plans.”
“Tell him to forget it.” The boy replied harshly, “I’ve already given him my answer.” His dark green eyes reverted back to their calm and gleaming emerald color, and he relaxed his shoulders, allowing the tense muscles to fall down in a more comfortable position.
“Ah, but now he makes you an offer you simply cannot refuse.” Sporion replied, his voice sounding sly as he spoke, “Come now Ceros, you know it only fitting you comply with the Scorpio Mage’s wishes… it’s much easier then making him force you to do it. Meet with him on the cusp at 12 o’clock that day, or he’ll come to you.”
Before Ceros could say anything further, the scorpion spoke once more in that loud rasping voice, “Ca lat matie,” and dove back into the dark black hole, the ground sealing behind him as he went.
Chapter 2
A girl with long dark black locks and a piercing gaze stood atop a large cliff that extended down over a grassy slope which ended in a small town near a large lake. It was dark over the village, and there was no sign of life. Houses were either burned to the ground, or smashed. Smoke rose from piles of ash that littered the trashed streets. Merchant’s carts were overturned, their contents spilling everywhere, and the signs that still hung, hung crooked. The girl’s diamond purple eyes shone like violets in the setting sun, and the wind blew her satin purple sash around wildly.
Her pupils looked hard and stone like as she watched over the small town. Sighing, she turned from the windy land slope and dared not look back at the town once more. Another one struck by the Scorpio Mage.
Thoughts like this were not the ones she wanted flowing through her wise mind, and found it greatly discouraging. “Ceros,” she whispered aloud, “If you break my trust, and follow the footsteps of that wretched man, I’ll personally end your life.”
She closed his eyes as she spoke, and remained silent and still for a few more moments, before her sapphire blue eyes flickered open again, and she stormed down the cliff, heading back to secure land.
Ceros closed his eyes for a second time, and shook his head in confusion. Such troubled times we have here… His face fell solemn, And that idiotic Scorpio Mage, wants me of all people to join in on his conquest? I understand that he wishes a powerful being his side, but he has done too much to hurt my precious land, and he cannot expect me to follow him like some dog. No… He must want something else.
The Capricorn Mage stood puzzled for only a few more moments, before his attention was drawn to a whirl of purple smoke, which appeared only feet in front of him. “Ceros,” flowed a stern voice from the smoke.
“Keya.” Ceros returned the named greeting, his dark green forest like eyes glued to the spot where the smoke was, and where a now dark haired girl with violet eyes and long curls now stood, her purple satin clothing standing out in the midst of all the green.
“You’ve been visited by Sporion again, haven’t you?” The girl pressed, her usually calm purple eyes now hardened with furry, “I thought I told that bug to shove off, or I’d squash him.”
“I’d like to see that…” Ceros muttered quietly under his breath, before answering Keya was a court nod and saying, “I have.”
“Knew it…” The girl snapped quietly under his breath, “You haven’t accepted his request this time, have you?” Her voice held edges of hostility, but concern flickered within it as well, “Cause if you have…” She trailed off, staring at Ceros with a piercing gaze.
“No now Keya, I have not.” Ceros replied breathlessly, as if only talking was sucking away his energy, “I fear I have no choice but to meet with him though.” His voice sounded greatly weary, “He has invited me to a meeting on the cusp of the Sagittarius and Capricorn, forced meeting per say.”
“Of course.” Keya replied quietly, dropping her purple gaze to the ground, and sighing loudly.
“What troubles the Gemini Mage?” Ceros asked, a teasing edge in his tone as he spoke.
Keya chuckled slightly, but only slightly. The small laugh was cut short by a sudden flash in her mind, a very recent memory. A picture of none other then the destroyed down she had just witnessed, and the smoke clogged her memory.
“Ceros. I found a Sagittarius town in ruins today. No survivors. No signs of a struggle. Just simple destruction. Everything was ruble or ash. Burned or smashed.” Her voice was solemn, edged with sorrow, but as she spoke, a new emotion began to enter her words…. Anger. “He’s done it again Ceros! Destroyed the innocent! Murdered the good! Demolished the great! Rid the place of all that wished for a peaceful life not under his rule…”
Ceros remained silent, only giving a stout nod to signal he knew, and understood. His dark forest like eyes stared aimlessly at the grass laden ground. “Eleven mages and not one of us have done anything to stop him.”
“10.” Keya corrected him quietly. “10?” Ceros replied, his voice full of confusion. Keya nodded, and sighed, “The Taurus Mage, Taka, has joined him. Along with the villages of the Taurus.”
“You must be joking.” Ceros replied exasperated, “One was bad enough… but now.”
“Ceros… We have done nothing… For we cannot do anything.” Keya replied calmly, her satin purple eyes sending a soothing feeling through Ceros’s body. “The Scorpio Mage is strong. Very strong. As are his followers. He was granted unusual power. Power, I regret, unmatched by any of ours.”
“That d**n Zodiac!” Ceros suddenly cried out, “Why in all the four hells did he have to grant that boy the powers of the Scorpio Mage?”
“Ceros please.” Keya tried to reason, only to be interrupted by Ceros’s continued nagging.
“Out of three trillion people in the world, he had to choose him!” The Capricorn continued on his rampage, and the animals around him scattered, sensing his rising furry, “The Zodiac Mage has never made a more foolish mistake in his life!”
He was cut off then and there by the girl in front of him, “And it was his last, mistake, Ceros.” She replied harshly, her face suddenly stern, and hard. “He died not four days past, and in your ignorance you failed to realize so. Tell me Ceros. How powerful do you feel at the moment?”
Ceros fell silent, the anger suddenly gone from his expression, only to be replaced by amazement, and disbelief. “I… I… I guess I do feel, a bit weaker.” He replied quietly, not able to look Keya in the eye.
“A bit?” She asked doubtfully, “Come now Ceros, do you expect me to believe that. Answer my question, and truthfully.”
“Alright!” The boy shouted, rounding his gaze back upon her, “I do feel weaker. That’s why I have been meditating for the past few days. And that is why I had no idea the Zodiac Mage… Had died.”
Keya nodded, her expression softening. “We have all lost power Ceros.” She continued, her voice much calmer then it had been moments ago, “All, but the Scorpio Mage. As we grow weaker. He grows stronger. We have no choice, but to find the new, Zodiac Mage.”
Chapter 3
“Hmm….” A deep voice sounded through empty halls. Sporion stood on a long red velvet carpet that ran down a long yet wide room and up a flight of seven stairs, ending at the foot of a large red throne laid with gold. A large sheet hung from the ceiling in an awkward position, shading the upper half of what looked like a strong and muscular body, which sat in the royal thrown. His upper body was darkened by the fallen cloth, and his elbow rested easily on the chair arm.
“Hmm…” He hummed the word again, thinking. “You think he will come, Sporion?” The deep voice asked, its tone edged with doubt.
“Yes my lord. I do.” The great scorpion replied, his head bowed in a respectful way. “Then you are a fool.” The voice responded, earning a surprised glance from the animal, “Ceros is no child. He knows I have accepted that he will not join, and he knows I must be after something else. No. He knows Sporion… He always knows.”
“But my lord-“ Sporion protested, but fell silent as the man raised one of his broad hands that were covered with callous and visibly ruff. “I have known him all my life, servant, do not, contradict me. I know my own brother.”
“Indeed, my lord.” Sporion bowed his head again, and began to step back, turning quickly and scurrying from his spot on the rug, and diving out of sight through the large archway that lead from the throne room, leaving his master along in silent thoughts.
Ceros will come. He always does. But… will he come alone? He’s always been on to find the loop holes in the deals even though he has always kept his promises; he can usually manipulate it to his liking, and his benefit. The now alone ruler sat in his throne, sifting through the ocean of thoughts that had drowned his mind. I know he will… Err… That d**n boy! How am I suppose to be sure he will come alone? With his mind he will think of how to dethrone me before the sun sets in the East and the moon rises in the West. That boy has a sharp mind, too bad he doesn’t have the power and strength to match it.
The man sighed quietly to himself, before standing up quickly, and striding down the stone steps into the light, turning, and jumping into a large square hole that had just opened up in the floor.
Ceros now paced back and forth in front of the girl, who seemed quite amused with his constant stopping, opening his mouth to speak, the closing it and shaking his head, dismissing whatever idea he had thought of, then continuing on with his pacing. “What if- No,” pace, pace, pace, “How about- No,” pace, pace, pace, “There’s always- No,” pace, pace, pace. He opened his mouth to speak again but was cut short by Keya who sarcastically said, “No.”
Ceros narrowed his eyes in annoyance and Keya laughed quietly, “Ceros. Your pacing is doing nothing but flattening the grass. Stop it.” And indeed the grass that was under his feet now lay at a slanted angle. “Sorry…” He muttered, more to the grass then Keya.
The girl nodded, “Understandable.” She replied, her violet eyes suddenly hardening as well as her voice, “But I think our best bet is to notify the other Mages of our quest, and tell them to keep an eye out for him. The last one was a Libra so-“ She suddenly fell silent, her eyes widening.
Ceros stared at her confused, “What?” He asked her, his tone a bit louder then he meant it to be.
“Ceros! The last one was a Libra!” Keya returned the high volume voice, “So… Your point?” Ceros asked, obviously dumbfounded, “Ceros, what comes after Li-“ “Scorpio!” Ceros had suddenly realized what Keya was so horrified about, and he too sunk into a state of depression mixed with an unknown and indescribable feeling, that he labeled as disappointment. “Keya…” He looked up at the equally appalled girl who said, “How do you turn him against the Scorpio Mage?” Ceros’s gave her a doubtful look, “How do you turn water to fire?”
“Hurry up,” A voice sounded through the busy streets. It was gruff and unfriendly. A man with a bristled beard and thick mustache stood in the center of a small trade market. He held a whip in his stubby hand and his pudgy wrist snapped, flicking the whip at a near by boy with several scars on his back who let out a quiet yelp and pulled harder on the rope that was wound around a large block.
The man smiled evilly and cracked the whip again, striking the boy down. His knees struck the coble stone road hard, and he cried out in pain as hot tears began to build up behind his eyes. He brushed his hand across his face, wiping the water away and quickly scrambled to his feet. He picked up the rope that he had dropped when he fell, and began to pull again, sniffing loudly.

There are a lot of mistakes. Like at one point it says she has purple eyes, then blue, then purple again. They are purple. I get mixed up.
